Ryan Thomas, Nollie - Photo: TrixFoot placement is the key here. Snuggle your front foot (facing slightly foward for reasons I will come to) into the bend of your nose just infront of your bolts.

Your back foot should be infront of the back bolts, same angle as the front or else the board will drift backside as you pop. Try to keep your stance composed because you need stability to do these at any speed.

The temptation is to lean foward over the nose as you pop but this throws your direction and pop out of whack. Although it feels unusual to begin with, keep a good two thirds of your weight towards the back.

Now heres the secret: instead of stamping straight down, aim to strike the nose off the ground an inch or so infront of your nose tip. This has the effect of springing the pop as well as keeping momentum.

The other thing to remember is that if you jump up from the board you loose that all important back foot drag which lifts and levels the nose. Concentrate on getting a good drag up the tape with the outside of your backfoot – I find trying to do a ‘one foot’ with the back foot means you get stuck into the tail pretty well and the board levels smoothly.
