Richard Tweed, Crook - Photo: Patrick McElweeAlso called ‘Crooks’ or ‘K-grind’ this is one of the toughest grinds. It is so-called because it is a variation of the nosegrind where you sit in the grind at a slightly crooked angle to the block. Before you even try to do them learn how to do a nose manual.

Roll towards the block at a decent speed, parallel to the grind edge, with your feet in the ollie position. Pop an ollie and land on the grind edge with your front foot on the nose, with most of your weight on the front truck, towards the heel-side. Use your arms to keep your balance, making sure you don’t lean forward too much and use your back leg to guide your grind. To come out of the grind you can pivot off into fakie or even better pop a nollie. Your nose doesn’t have to touch the surface when you nollie off, as, even without contact, the nollie motion and your momentum will take you off the object and back to ground.

Hints: If you’re having problems landing the front truck on the curb, try stalling. Just stand next to the curb, pop an ollie, land the front truck on the curb in the k-grind position and pivot off. This will help you get the hang of landing in the crooked position.
