Keeping a well maintained Skateboard is important as it will help prolong it’s lifespan. Nuts and bolts will come loose and Skateboard parts do wear out, so keeping your Skateboard correctly maintained is just as important to your safety as it is to the Skateboard’s durability.

Keep your Deck Clean

Take care of your deck, always wear clean shoes and make every attempt to keep mud and dirt of the griptape. Keep the deck out of wet weather. Look out for pressure cracks often, as they’ll severely weaken your deck. If you notice too many pressure cracks it’s time to replace your deck, otherwise you put yourself at risk!

Maintaining your Skateboards Bearings

It’s important to keep fresh bearings and clean them out regularly. To clean out your bearings, the easiest way is to simply remove them from your wheels and spray them with a lubricant (not WD-40). It’s important you use a lubricant which won’t leave any residue behind so when you buy some make sure you look out for that. Once your done simply put them back in the wheels and your finished.

Storing a Skateboard

It’s important that a Skateboard is kept in a cool and dry location and not somewhere warm, moist as it’ll warp and become weaker, heavier and loose it’s pop.

Loose Parts on your Skateboard

Check your Skateboard regularly for loose or broken parts, it’s best to carry around a skate tool with you just in case you need to adjust your Skateboard’s trucks or tighten up a loose bolt.

Maintain your Wheels

Make sure your wheels are smooth and damage free, if you notice any flat spots, missing chunks it’s time to replace them.

Keep an Eye on your Bushings

One of the more undervalued parts of a Skateboard. Bushings are very important as they take a lot of pressure and stress. If you notice any cracks or splits in the bushings then replace them. It’s best to replace them reguarly as they are cheap and can make a big difference in your Skateboards peformance.

Worn Griptape

Skating with worn griptape is a bad idea, not only do you have less grip you’ll find it harder to do certain Skateboard tricks. If you find your griptape is worn take a look at your deck, if its in bad condition consider buying a new deck as this will come with new griptape. If your deck is still in good condition then go down to your local skateshop and buy a new sheet of griptape and replace the old worn griptape.
